From July 20 until September 20, 2008 day trips to the Olympic Green are not possible.
As you know Beijing is the hosting city for the 2008 Olympic Games and during the past 7 years there has been a lot going on to prepare the city for this huge event.
Apart from all kinds of buildings with different functions that have been and are being built, such as the new National Theater (the Egg) and the new CCTV Headquarters and Television Cultural Center, perhaps the most amazing development is that of the Olympic Green.
The Olympic Green will be the main grounds for the Olympic Games. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be held at the Bird’s Nest (the National Stadium, designed by Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron) and on the Olympic Green you will find a total of 7 new Olympic Stadiums. It will also have its own subway line, a couple of huge parks and of course the Olympic Village.
The newly built stadiums located on the Olympic Green are:
as well as 3 existing Stadiums that were built for the Asian Games of 1990 and have been renovated for the Olympics:
Obviously the eye-catchers of the Olympic Green are the Bird’s Nest and the Water Cube and Beijing Day Trips gives you the chance to see a glimpse of them!
Most of the times we cannot get onto the grounds, but even from the outside you can get a real good impression of this immense building project!
On the way back from your visit to the Great Wall or the Summer Palace we can include a visit to the Olympic Green and we also can arrange a trip around Beijing to see this and the other architectural highlights.
