Beijing Day Trips - Great Wall at Jiankou

This part of the “Wild Wall” is definitely worth a trip into Huairou County!

Early in the morning we pick you up at your hotel and drive via the new JingCheng Expressway to Huairou County, northeast of Beijing.

From there the road starts winding up the mountains and you can already see the back side of the Mutianyu section and another section of the Great Wall dating back to the Ming Dynasty.

The travel time to Jiankou Great Wall is around 2 hours and then it’s another 30mins climb up the mountain. The view you will then see is gorgeous and there will not be many other people than you! You can explore the Wall in both directions.

With fit people only we can also do a 5km/3hr hike along the Jiankou Great Wall. On the way where parts of the trail are covered with vegetation growth, you can enjoy breathtaking views and you will definitely see this as a unique experience during your stay in Beijing!

Afterwards we will take you to a fantastic resort at the Yanqi Lake, where we will offer you lunch with fresh fish from the lake and special vegetables from the mountains.
Alternatively we can take a packed sandwich lunch with us and have that at the ruins of one of the watch towers along the way.

For larger groups we can also organise extra activities at the resort, such as a wine tasting, a baseball game or even a dragon-boat race!

In the afternoon you will still have some time to do other things in Beijing, like shopping or seeing some of the beautiful historic sites in Beijing!

We can take any number of people on this trip and at any day of the week. For your convenience we will pick you up at your hotel; recommendable pick up time is 7am.

Although people of all ages can join this trip, you have to be in a reasonable condition to climb the mountain that is sometimes a bit steep.

For the 5km hike we only take fit people and you need minimum class A hiking shoes. Other options, like staying overnight in the farmer village at the foot of Jiankou Great Wall, are also possible. You can let us know your preferences on the reservation form.
