Beijing Day Trips - Great Wall at Huanghua

The “Wild Wall” at Huanghua is - like Jiankou Great Wall - also located in Huairou County, but in the western part of it.

Early in the morning we pick you up at your hotel and drive via the new JingCheng Expressway to Huairou County, northeast of Beijing.

The travel time to Huanghua Great Wall is 1.5-2 hours.

At Huanghua Great Wall there are two sections on both sides of the road. For the one section, first we have to cross a short dam and then we have to climb a path up the mountain to get on the Great Wall itself.

You can follow the Huanghua Great Wall all the way up and you will see that the condition of the Wall is still quite good. The trail continues past a point where it makes a sharp turn down; from there it will become dangerous with a sharp decline and loose stones! We will only make this descent with very experienced hikers.

With others we will return to the halfway point and from there exit the Huanghua Great Wall. You will then find yourself in luscious fruityards of local farmers and make the relaxed walk back to the starting point.

The other section starts with a path up the mountain immediately and after a short hike up you will find yourself on the Great Wall. From here you can walk to another section of the Great Wall, called “Shui Chang Cheng” or “Water Wall”, but be careful, as there are many loose parts or parts that are completely gone. The way down is the same as where we came from.

On this hike we will invite you for a packed sandwich lunch at one of the many watch towers along the way.

We can take any number of people on this trip and at any day of the week. For your convenience we will pick you up at your hotel; recommendable pick up time is between 7 and 8am.
