Backside Mutianyu

The hike of the backside of Mutianyu Great Wall is the latest addition to our “wild” wall hikes.

Huairou County Great Wall map

The backside of Mutianyu Great Wall is non-restored and dates back to the Ming Dynasty.

We start at the village of Lianhuachi where a short and steep climb up brings us to the ruins of the first watch tower. From there on our hike continues along several watch towers to the restored section of Mutianyu Great Wall.

If you hadn’t had enough yet, we can continue the wild wall hike in eastern direction where we can have a packed sandwich lunch at the ruins of a watch tower.

For the descent from the restored side of Mutianyu Great Wall you can choose from 4 different ways: by chairlift, by gondola (involves hiking up the entire restored part of Mutianyu Great Wall), walking down via stairs or by taking the fun tobogan run!

We can stop for a Chinese lunch in Huairou town (if you didn’t choose the sandwich option) or drive you straight back to Beijing, so in the afternoon you will still have some time to do other things, like shopping or seeing some of the beautiful historic sites!

We can take any number of people on this trip, at any day of the week. For your convenience we will pick you up at your hotel.
As Mutianyu Great Wall can become very crowded, we recommend to leave Beijing no later than 7am.

For this hike we only take fit people and you need minimum class A hiking shoes. The total hike is approximately 3.5 hours.

The price per person depends on the number of people, so please contact us for more information or with any of your questions.

We invite you to have a look at the photos-page to get a good impression what you can expect at Mutianyu Great Wall.
